Despite the ever changing and exciting new additions and exhibitions in this Art Gallery, this will always be my favourite section. It was the first artwork, indeed first place I ever saw in Manchester and nearly two years later I find myself constantly returning. Thank you Manchester for this beautiful place!

Hello, it looks like the children had a lot of fun making the leaves. I am 11 years old and I love doing art, especially mosaic and drawing. I hope Amanda loved doing the art as much as the children!

I first saw The Hireling Shepherd at Manchester Art Gallery when I was 9 or 10. It completely bowled me over...I couldn't believe how beautifully it was painted...and despite my parents saying it was 'old hat' and just Victorian drama! I'm now 60 and, from that first exposure to Pre-Raphaelite art, I have been a lifelong addict of their work. It has also led me to love the work of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement. I believe these two movements have shaped much of our current taste and understanding of beauty and good design.

Thank you Manchester for lighting this flame for me.
